Kevin Meek is a former Division I midfielder with over
fifteen years experience as a coach for teams in Indiana
and Massachusetts and as a
Director of Coaching for several programs in Indiana.
From 2004-2008 he served as the Head Assistant Coach for Westfield State
College and helped change the women's soccer program from a team with
consecutive losing seasons and a last place record in the MASCAC conference to
conference champions who made their first NCAA tournament appearance in school
history in 2008. He has coached several top tier MAPLE squads, served as
Assistant Coach for the Lady Pioneers, served as Soccer Program Director for a
two-month-long residential summer camp in the Berkshires for kids ranging in
ages from 7 to 14, has been a contributing writer for Soccer New
England Magazine, and was recently named the Head Coach for Elms
College.
As a player, he earned All-Conference and All-State honors
in high school, started for Olympic Development and elite club teams that
traveled throughout North America and competed for state
and national titles, trained and played in both Denmark
and Holland, and played for ButlerUniversity. As a coach, he started
as an assistant while he was a freshman at Butler
for one of the winningest coaches in IndianaHigh School history, and after
college began a coaching career that has included several premier U-17 and U-19
boys' teams, as well as boys and girls' teams at the youth and adult levels.
Recently, he earned National Soccer Coach's Association
Advanced Regional and National diplomas, International Coach's Association
Bronze Level Certification, completed an English Football Association Fitness
and Psychology for Soccer and Level One Certification, has begun an MA in
Fitness and Strength Training, is studying the SPARQ method of training, and
will complete a National Youth Diploma and Director of Coaching Diploma within
the next six months.
He is actively involved with several soccer training
organizations and clubs in Massachusetts
and the Midwest, has participated and attended several
national soccer coaching conventions and showcases, and is constantly seeking
ways to improve his ability to effectively coach, manage, recruit, and assist
players reach their goals. This has included training with the KNVB Dutch
National Football organization and the Gatorade Institute.
He earned a BA from butler University and a MFA in creative writing from UMASS Amherst, and is currently an Associate Professor of English at Westfield State College.
